Option 1: Stay inside or right by the town walls
Being able to walk out of your hotel and be at the King's Gate in under ten minutes is a real convenience, especially if you want an early, quiet visit. The Black Boy Inn, a 16th-century inn within the town walls, and Victoria House, a waterfront B&B a few minutes from the castle with sea and castle views, are both commonly cited as being within a few minutes' walk. The Celtic Royal Hotel & Spa, a larger three-star hotel in the town centre with a pool and spa, dates its building's history back to a stay by the young Princess (later Queen) Victoria in 1832, and sits about a 10-minute walk from the harbour.

This trades a short castle-to-bed walk for proximity to the mountains.
