The Cadw £1 ticket scheme

Cadw offers £1 tickets to people receiving Universal Credit and certain other named benefits, as part of a scheme to widen access to Welsh heritage sites. Eligibility and how to claim are explained on Cadw's £1 tickets page ↗.

Booking online vs paying on arrival

You can buy tickets on arrival or book ahead online. Per Cadw, booking online guarantees your price and includes an automatic 5% discount versus the walk-up rate — but online tickets are non-refundable, so only book ahead if your visit date is fixed. If your plans might change, paying on arrival gives you more flexibility.

Cadw membership & Explorer Passes

If you're visiting several Welsh heritage sites, Cadw membership gives free entry to all Cadw properties, and short-term Explorer Passes (3 or 7 days) are available for visitors on a shorter trip. Both can work out cheaper than paying per site if you're planning to see, say, Conwy and Beaumaris as well — see castles near Caernarfon. Check current pass and membership prices directly with Cadw, as these are separate from the single-site prices above.
